Governor’s Message - September 24, 2008
Roxann and I continue to be warmly received at each of the clubs we visit and are excited to hear about the projects of each club and the club’s participation in the Books From Birth program before it became an area of interest in District 6760. This program reaches children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to have books of their own. Rotary clubs are making an investment in their community’s futures by encouraging reading and learning.
Almost 60% of the clubs have reported their contribution to the Gates Challenge for PolioPlus and District 6760 is nearing the goal of $65,000 this first year of the challenge. The August window for making the contribution is a District imposed time frame, so I am asking each of the clubs who have not turned in their amount to continue to strive for the $20/member challenge and reply to me as soon as possible.
We attended the Lawrenceburg Fair last night and had a terrific time meeting the Rotarians and watching their plan come to fruition as lots of folks were in attendance and enjoying the midway and especially the Demolition Derby. It was great fun to watch and I’m glad I was not asked to participate as a driver.
